Character: Carmel is a smart one – quick to nod “Yes” for a treat and play any arena game you are smart enough to engage him in. He wants to move and work, both mentally and physically and is an excellent Western Pleasure horse for our advanced riders. His Mustang/Thoroughbred cross-breeding has produced a stout body, pretty face, and gaits that nearly float.

Character: This girl is all sweet and no spice!  Cinnamon was previously a lesson pony, so she has settled into her work at the ranch wonderfully.  Her size makes her the perfect fit for our littlest riders looking for more independence, and she is working towards settling into some therapeutic lessons, too.  The only thing she dislikes is standing around….she has a job to do!

Character: All-around extraordinaire, Color has an extensive show record behind him and competed on a national level.  From English to western, jumping to barrel racing, dressage to saddle seat (and even a little cart driving, too), Color has done it all.  He knows his job well and loves his job.  After many years of hard work, a change of pace and a quieter lifestyle as a lesson horse are welcome changes for Color.  He is especially loving all the carrots, back scratches, and snuggles he is getting since joining the Ivey team.

Character: Don’t let her small size fool you, Eeda can easily keep up with horses twice her size. Eeda’s strong, sturdy build makes her a valuable addition to our therapeutic riding program, but she’s happy to switch to a more advanced lesson and pop over cross rails, too!

Character: A big youngster, Roy is the baby of the barn. You can find him among balls, cones, and toys loaded in his stall to keep him busy. But you won’t be able to miss him when he is flying around the big arena jumping little Cavalletti and clearing them by 1-2 feet!

Character: Sasha came to us from Challenge Ranch in El Cajon. Because most of the riders at that ranch are children, Sasha was a bit too large for their everyday needs. Not here! With our adults, Veterans, and young adults – Sasha is a welcome addition to the herd since 2014.

Character: Steady, sensitive, and just a tiny bit suspicious of new experiences, Scooter is working on figuring out his role here at the ranch. Scooter was previously a ranch horse, so everything from the mounting blocks to working in the arenas is new to him, but he has quickly learned to love grooming treats, and snuggling with the kids  – the important things – and the rest is coming along quite nicely.

Character: Sweet and simple, Tia is always interested in what’s going on at the ranch. With her slow, steady movement and kind disposition, she has quickly become a dependable lesson horse for riders at any skill level.

Bugsy

Character: Bugsy was so meek and quiet when she first arrived that we were concerned about how she would handle life at the ranch. We needn’t have worried – she has turned into the confident and playful girl that we know and love today. Not one for pets or snuggles, Bugsy loves to be admired from a distance and talked sweetly to, and while she’s not very stealthy, she gives the small critters around here a run for their money.

Mama

Character: We didn’t see Mama for several months after she arrived…the only evidence she left was claw marks, hair as she rubbed against things, and the occasional hiss and growl when we got too close. It’s amazing to compare the Mama cat of those first few months with her today; she is always up for a scratch and will spend hours snuggled up in your lap if you offer it to her. While she doesn’t do many of the typical barn cat activities, she sure brings a lot of people joy with her sweet, friendly demeanor.

Miso

Character: The true baby of the barn, he was acquired as a kitten to be a companion and friend for Mama (although it took her a while to appreciate the gesture). He has grown up at the ranch surrounded by many admirers, but these days he’s so busy chasing things and mapping out his territory that he doesn’t have much time for more than a quick scratch before he’s off hunting again!
