Dee Warford-Kutch Award & Volunteer Manager Recognition Luncheon

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2nd annual International Volunteer Manager Day event on November 5. Over 120 people came to celebrate, recognize the importance of managers of volunteers in our agencies, and spend a wonderful time networking, enjoying the lovely Shelter Island location and great buffet!

The highlight of the day was the presentation of the Dee Warford-Kutch Award for excellence in volunteer management. The judges had a very difficult decision to make as outstanding candidates were nominated for their work in the field:

Amy Pat Rigney - Zoological Society of San Diego

Angela Moran - Shakti Rising

Charlotte Perry - Mt. Soledad Memorial Association

Claire Summer - Spirit of Casa, Inc.

Jared McCannell - Hostelling International USA , San Diego Council

Jeannine Moeder - 211 San Diego (now with the Alzheimer's Association of San Diego )

Jennifer Fogleson - San Diego Armed Services YMCA

Kathleen Frampton - Burn Institute Maggie Marshall - Southern Caregiver Resource Center

Mark Franklin - Challenge Ranch Mary Dupres - The Salvation Army Senior Dining & Social Center

Rebecca Samson - American Heart Association

Tonya Danielly - Oceanside Ivey Ranch Park Association

This year's recipient is Tonya Danielly, the Executive Director at Ivey Ranch Park Association. She has managed the volunteer program since 1999. Currently there are 347 active volunteers. Tonya is dedicated to Ivey Ranch Park and the work it does for children with special needs. This dedication does not end at 40 hours a week, but is rather a part of who she is. Tonya's philosophy is that she would never ask a volunteer to do something that she doesn't do. You might find her leading a horse for a lesson or raking horse manure with two or three volunteers. You would also find her doing what she would never ask a volunteer to do - schooling a difficult horse or back riding a very fragile child who can not hold up his head. This young woman emphatically states that the done at Ivey Ranch Park could not/would not happen without the multitude of warm-hearted people that give of their time and energy.

Rotary ClubThe Oceanside Rotary Club recently presented Ivey Ranch Park Association with a check for $1,000. The donation is part of the club's continued commitment to disabled veterans. Ivey Ranch's program, Horses for Heroes, is a physical, occupational or recreational therapy for disabled military veterans. The program, scheduled to begin later this year, teams disabled veterans, active-duty, military volunteers and very special horses for the empowering and enjoyable activity of horseback riding.
